TONY ELUMELU THE BANKER

TONY ELUMELU - The New Chairman of Transcorp
Mr. Tony Elumelu has come a long way in the business world despite his young age. He has proved that the younger generation of Nigerians can improve the business management and development in Nigeria to compete favourably with the rest of the world.

Mr. Elumelu made a mark in the banking industry that transcend beyond the shores of Africa. He started when he alongside some enviable and remarkable businessman in Nigeria bought over the Crystal Bank.

The bank evolved to become Standard Trust Bank and Continental Trust Bank, Standard Trust Bank was one of the top modern banks in Nigeria and had directors like Tony Elumelu (Managing Director) Alhaji Abba Kyari (Chairman) Mr. Otega Emerhor, Chief Macpepple. etc

Tony and his colleague did so well in the banking industry with the Standard Trust Bank and Continental Trust Bank. The two banks were well positioned to face the challenges posed by the N25billion Recapitalization exercise carried out by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The recapitalization exercise further gave Mr. Elumelu an opportunity to prove himself as a reputable banker who could adapt to rigorous changes. In that process, one of the three biggest banks in Nigeria, United Bank for Africa went into a merger with Standard Trust Bank Continental Trust Bank.

That gave the Delta State born banking expert more opportunity to excel in an industry that saw some of its members scamper to safety under other banks. Others were swallowed completely. To prove his worth today UBA is in various parts of the world thanks to Tony hard work and the impact of his colleagues and dedicated staff. The rest is now history.
